The Water Department bills monthly for water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and maintenance program. The bills are mailed out the first of every month. The water bill is determined on the amount of water used. Generally for 2 people, water is $25.00 to $30.00; for 3 to 4 people, it is generally $40.00 to $45.00 per month.

Yes, we require a $100.00 meter deposit due at the time you sign up for water service. After two years of good credit with the Hiawatha Water Department, your meter deposit will be refunded to you. If you move before the two years is up, we will apply the deposit to your final bill and refund the balance to you if there is one.

Yes, Hiawatha has 6 deep wells that serve the City; two of the wells are treated at our Iron Removal Plant. We also have a million gallons of overhead storage with two towers.

Not at this time. Due to the way the water system is laid out, it would be very costly to soften the water. It’s more cost effective for each homeowner to soften their own water if they wish. Some people prefer not to soften the water.

Call the Water Department at 319-393-5556 option #4 or stop in during business hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. To start service we would need your move in date and Hiawatha address. To stop service we need your move out date, current and forwarding address.

We mail out the utility bills the first of every month; payments are due on or before the 20th day of each month.
